DIY Wedding Flowers After The Wedding

Hmmm...What to do with all those beautiful flowers after the ceremony.

1. I like the idea of sending them to a hospital or a nursing home. I remember visiting, my Aunt Ruth for years before she died. She lived in an assisted living facility. Generally a bit drab. There were a few times I visited that a bride and groom had all their flowers sent over. It is absolutely amazing how this brightened the space and the faces of the residents. Also, there are a couple of homeless shelters in my area that would be beyond thrilled to have some gaiety strewn around!

2. Sending them home with guests is pretty common and sweet.

3. Preserving them as decor for your home. This is simple to do. For Do It Yourselfers, this can save you about $150! Check out your craft or hobby store and watch a youtube video such as this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzI38r_wSnE&feature=related.  I really like this fella! Or this gal, Marie Crawford, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJYGMRsxl5g&feature=related. Short, sweet and simple! Love it!

4. Make jewelry!  http://www.hgtv.com/crafting/rose-petal-beads/index.html This website gives the history. Really interesting!

5. Make paper for notes and a wedding scrapbook. There is a company in St. Louis that will offer this soon, http://www.castpaperart.com/. They will hand-craft your wedding flowers into personalized stationery, photo albums or whatever you can come up with, I imagine. What a great idea! I don't know the cost of this, but we DIY's can do this! Cheap!
